Just after 3 pm, QFD and the first alarm mutual aid units were dispatched to Wheatfield Court in Quarryville Borough for a dwelling fire. A large column of smoke observed from station and from those responding led to the immediate alert for the “working fire dispatch”.
Engine 574 arrived with a split-level house with fire showing in the garage and floor above. A 360 was done and the crews from Engine 574 and Truck 57 went to work starting the fire attack with a 2″ line while additional lines were stretched to the interior. Ladders were thrown, the main was put to the roof, a search started (finding a dog) and numerous other fire ground tasks. The 2nd crew from E574 found a room involved on the 2nd floor and extinguished the same. A closed door between the garage and main house kept fire damage contained to one side of the house.
Additional 57 units and mutual aid arrived with assignments for water supply, back up line, salvage and overhaul and RIT.
The fire was under control in 30 minutes, with crews remaining until 5:35 pm.
Thanks to all of the mutual aid companies, QBPD, Quarryville Borough Public Works and the QFD Special Division for food and drinks.
