At 7:52 pm Tuesday evening, while crews were training on grain bin rescue at a local grain handling facility, the pre-alert went out for a house fire assisting Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company at Drytown Road and Hilldale Road in Martic Township. Units quickly responded from training. Chief 58 Carl Strickler arrived with a one-story house well involved. 58, 57 and 89 (Robert Fulton) units arrived and went to work on fire attack and water supply. The main body of fire was knocked down quickly. Some QFD members also operated in the attic of an attached portion of the house and opened the roof of that part to alleviate heat and smoke conditions to allow for easier overhaul.
Crews from multiple companies worked together flawlessly to bring the incident under control. Volunteers remained on the scene until about midnight while the PSP Fire Marshal conducted an investigation and then complete overhaul. Many QFD members had a very short night (if any) sleep before having to go back to work this Wednesday morning.
Thank to Tom Amico and FF Wayne Brion for the photos, and to Gap Fire Company for standing by.
