On Saturday, 14 firefighters (9 of them QFD members) completed the practical day of our Truck II class. This lass built upon the things learned in Truc I, and focuses mostly on operating in and on commercial structures. We were very fortunate to be able to do the practical portion with 3 acquired structures on Columbia Avenue in East Hempfield Township (thanks to Rohrerstown Fire Company). This allowed th class to operate in “real world” conditions, and not just on props. The entire day was spent cutting roofs, forcing entry, cutting garage doors, cutting simulated locks and bars, chains and gates. The day finished up with three run-in drills which put everyones skills to work with forcible entry of very secured doors, search and rescue, ladder work, roof work, saw work, and VES.
Thanks to all of the members who participated and put in a solid 16 hours worth or training over the last 2 weeks. Thanks also to the instructors who presented a great class with real world skills and to QFD Captain Ken Yost who organized it all.
