On the last Tuesday night of every month, QFD members do apparatus checks, equipment checks and train with our rookie and junior firefighters. Last night, we did all of the above; rig checks on all units (check fluids, tire pressures, lights, emergency lights, pumps and run all associated items), checked all power and hand tools (saws, hydraulic tools, flashlights, radios, hand tools etc), and then went to Wesley Road and drafted with Engine 574. This gave some driving and pump time to drivers in training, and also gave the senior members some time to go over skills with the rookies.
Right now, we have some very motivated and eager to learn rookie members. You can be one of them. If you are 15 or older and have a desire to help your community and learn skills that are invaluable from some skilled firefighters, this is the place to be. Stop by some Tuesday night and see for yourself what it’s like to be a firefighter. We plan on training with the rookies and juniors quite a bit this summer, come be part of it.
