In May, the QFD membership voted to purchase a new Squad 571. After delivery, modifications, lettering and emergency lighting, scene lighting, siren and radio installation, the new Squad was put into service last week.
Squad 571 is a 2018 Ford F-250 XLT Super Duty with a gas engine. It has a bed cap and full length bed slide. The Squad was lettered by J9 Design, and the up-fitting and modifications were completed by James Groff & Son, Inc.of Quarryville. The squad will carry normal equipment used for medical assists, spill control, man power assists etc.
Squad 571 was purchased on the PA State Contract through Whitmoyer. With everything, the cost was in the area of $45,000.00.
The previous Squad 571 was sold to West Willow Fire Company. The 1994 Ford provided great service for us since 1996. Members took many, many trips to training, calls and other special events. One of the more memorable was the blizzard of 1996 where we put over 600 miles on the squad responding as “Medic 6” to calls all over Southern Lancaster County, all in four wheel drive.
