At 9:13 am Monday morning, QFD and mutual aid units were dispatched to the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Quarryville Borough for a house fire. As personnel responded to the station, we were notified that fire was showing from the garage of the residence. The “working fire dispatch” was requested immediately.
QFD units arrived quickly to find a ranch-style house with fire showing from the attached garage. Crews forced entry, stretched lines, attacked the fire in the garage and performed a search of the residence, along with several other tasks. Once the fire was knocked down in the garage (from the inside), fire was found in the attic space. Ceilings were pulled, the roof opened and the remainder of the fire extinguished.
Crews performed salvage and overhaul and assisted the PA State Police Fire Marshal conduct their investigation, which revealed and accidental cause of the fire.
Thanks to all of our mutual aid companies that responded and assisted and Union FC of Oxford for standing by for us. Thanks also to the local residents, QBPD and Quarryville Public Works for assisting with several tasks. And thanks to Tom Amico for the photos. The Company was out until noon, and then spent another hour at the station cleaning and getting equipment in service.
