Quarryville Fire Company

Since Wednesday, QFD has responded to several accidents, all of which were kind of strange and unique in every way. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries in any of the accidents.

Wednesday afternoon the Company responded to the intersection of Stanton Road and Smith Drive in Quarryville Borough for a two-vehicle accident with one overturned.

Thursday evening Rescue 57 responded to the 1500 block of Maypostoffice Road in Eden Township for a car that struck a loose horse that was pulling a manure spreader.

On Saturday, units responded to the 1700 block of Kirkwood Pike for a car that struck the chimney of a house, and then again just after 10 am for a trailer loaded with corn fodder bales that were overturned, forcing the members to show their inner farm-working skills.

On all of these accidents, QFD Fire Police controlled traffic and provided scene safety. And, the weekend has just begun.

After a fairly busy first week of 2021, the last week has been slow, but the first training night of the year was spent working hard on forcible entry skills.

Over the course of several years, QFD has hosted several forcible entry classes with Traditions Training and members have attended multiple others. Tonight we were able to utilize a force door that is owned by Bart Township Fire Company. This gave us some pretty "real-world" experience doing inward and outward two-person force drills. We also used several of the add on props to get a chance to use our new Dewalt battery operated rotary saw and angle grinder for metal cutting.

Next week we will continue doing one-person drills and some through-the-lock drills. Thanks to the 25+ members who turned out and broke a lot of wood.

2020 was a different year for everyone. We ran about 100 fewer calls than previous years, but saw many serious incidents. On the attached photos, you will see some of what we have done in 2020.

We want to thank everyone for supporting the QFD during 2020. Most of all, we want to thank our members and their families for the dedication and professionalism everyone has displayed in 2020.
