After a very slow 10 days (only 2 chimney fires), Engine 574, Truck and Tanler 57 were alerted to assist the Robert Fulton Fire Companyon a barn fire at 1921 Robert Fulton Highway in Fulton Township at 2:49 pm. Crews arrived to find a fire in the ceiling of a 50′ X 300′ hog barn. Apparently, the fire was the result of a methane gas ingition while welding.
Crews worked non-stop pulling the tin ceiling to find fire traveling in the blown-in insulation. The entire ceining in 150′ of the building had to be dropped to expose all of the burning material. Engine 572 was added onto the call later for additional manpower.
QFD units returned by 5:15 pm and spent another 30 minutes cleaning air packs, tools and equipment.
