It is with great sadness that the Quarryville Fire Company Number One announces the passing of Life Member Brian Wertz. Brian joined the QFD on October 1, 1995 and was active up until the time of his illness. Brian was active at the Rawlinsville Fire Company for many years before moving into and joining Quarryville.
Brian was always one of the most active and dedicated members of the Company, and would do anything for anyone. His wife Sherry (daughter of Life Member Ken Ryno), joined after Brian, so when something needed accomplished, you could always call on “Brian and Sherry”.
Brian was always working on something, building something, remodeling something and making life at QFD better for everyone. He always strived to leave the station, apparatus and equipment better than he found it. If not at the call, Brian and Sherry could always be counted on to help bring equipment and hose back, run and get food and drinks, start cleaning up, whatever was needed. Even though he fell off ladders, cut off fingers, broke bones and did all kinds of other damage to himself (we all said he was accident prone), that did not slow him down. He would repair himself and get right back into it.
Please keep the Brian’s families and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they traverse this difficult time. Losing Brian will leave a big hole in our Fire Company Family.
We will post funeral arrangements and details as we get them.
