At 3:47 pm Friday afternoon, Rescue 57 was alerted to assist the Willow Street Fire Co and multiple mutual aid companies with a house fire at 485 Lancaster Pike (Rt. 272) in Providence Twp. LCWC reported multiple calls, and a column of smoke could be seen in the area.
Chief 50 (Mike Reese) arrived with a bi-level house with fire showing and upgraded the response to a “Working Fire Dispatch” and then a second alarm. This put Engine 574 and Tanker 57 on the assignment.
QFD units arrived and the crews went to work assisting on the interior fire attack on the main body of fire that was in the attic area. Ceilings were pulled so the line crews could hit the fire. During the fire attack, the front porch roof failed and fell on two QFD members, knocking them to the ground. Luckily, both were able to quickly remove themselves with no serious injuries received. Command then pulled the interior crews out so the fire could be knocked down with the master stream from Truck 50.
Crews once again re-entered the structure to finish up extinguishment and take care of salvage and overhaul. Crews worked for several hours before returning to station to clean scba, gear and equipment.
QFD Fire Police and Squad 572 assisted in blocking and directing traffic on the always-busy Rt. 272. QFD Special Division made food for the stand by crews and for the QFD members when clean up was finished.
Thanks to Cochranville Fire Company Tanker 27 crew for assisting in the set up of our Special Division Vendor Show. We were supposed to meet and do this at 6 pm, but a lot of members were still out on the fire. Cochranville stepped up and helped us out, and for that we are thankful. Thanks also to Paradise Leaman Place Fire Company for standing by and helping with some things around the station.
