After months of planning and preparation, a full bus load of QFD members and friends left on Saturday morning bound for New York City and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. It was a beautiful, clear blue-sky day, almost like the one 16 years ago when this tragedy was thrust upon our nation.
We were able to enter the museum as a group, and most spent several hours looking at the displays and reliving some of the experiences from that day. Some of those with us were not even born yet, and some were only small children on 9/11/01.
After touring the museum and the memorials, the group was honored to be able to visit FDNY Engine 10 Ladder 10 quarters which is next to ground zero. During the tour of the first group, the Engine caught a run. Thanks to the “Ten House” for putting up with the visitation and showing true brotherhood hospitality.
The rest of the day was filled with visiting different sites and eating plenty of New York food.
Thanks to Loie Swayne and other members of the QFD Special Division for putting this trip together and organizing everything. It was truly an experience we will all remember for a long time.
