We are finally getting the finishing touches done to the station project. Two of the last major things to do were the exhaust system and the rear stairway.
The exhaust system was finished on Thursday. The system, made by Plymovent, will remove all of the apparatus exhaust during our responses and return to station. This will keep our firefighters from breathing in the exhaust, and will help to keep the station cleaner.
On Sunday morning, a crew tore out the original 1932 steps that go to the basement from the back of the station. This staircase was wooden and over the years we have had some water issues (now resolved) that have affected these stairs. We will be having concrete steps poured in. The steps were made of wood in 1932 with the thought that they may be torn out to make way for a building addition in the future.
A few more projects are underway to finally get everything completed. A full report with pictures and final costs will be posted in a few weeks when everything is done.
