Just before 3 pm Sunday afternoon, QFD and multiple LEMSA EMS units were dispatched to the 100 block of South Lime Street in Quarryville Borough for a vehicle accident involving a horse and buggy. As units responded, LCWC reported a QFD firefighter on the scene with 3 patients, 2 critical.
Rescue 57 and Engine 572 arrived with the crews using the spreaders to free one patient from being wedged between a pole and undercarriage of the buggy and assisting with patient care. Engine 574 responded to the upper ball field of the Legion Park to set up a landing zone for aviation (the helicopter was later cancelled and all EMS units transported by ground).
QFD Fire Police remained on the scene for several hours while QBPD conducted the investigation. Command was held by Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Welk.
QFD wishes those involved a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with you.
