Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - At 10:39 am, QFD, Bart Twp. FC (5-1), Union FC (21), and SVEMS EMS were dispatched to 114 Morrison Mill Road in Colerain Township for a house fire. On response, Engine 5-7-4 was advised of a possible fire in the attic / roof area.
FF Stahler who was in the area arrived with a 2 1/2 story dwelling with smoke showing. Engine 5-7-4 arrived, passed command to Chief 5-1 on Engine 5-1-1 and was advised by FF Stahler and FF Shaub (5-1) that the fire was in the rear, first floor. Engine 5-7-4's line crew advanced a 200' line and entered side "C" into the kitchen area, extinguishing the advancing fire and checking for extension by pulling the ceilings and walls. The fire was started by combustables to close to an operating wood stove.
Engine 5-1-1 and 21-2 crews went to the second floor to check for extension, finding none. Those crews did find the occupants dog and brought it outside. The dog was determined to be deceased.
The fire was under control minutes after arrival, and the incident was scaled back to 5-7 and 5-1 units. Members overhauled the fire room and returned available by 12:15 pm.
Thanks to all of the members and assist companies that helped out on this daytime call. Thanks also to Robert Fulton FC Engine 5-13-3 for standing by in our station. And thanks to Tom Amico for the pictures.
