Just after noon Monday, QFD Volunteers were alerted for a brush fire in the first block of Solanco Road in Colerian Township. Units arrived in the area to find a large picked cornfield on fire, but the actual access had to be off of Drywells Road. Once in scene, an additional brush unit (Refton 59) and and engine and tanker (Bart Township 51) were requested. About 3 acres of corn fodder that was raked and the take were on fire.
Brush 57 started to contain the fire by “pumping and rolling” around the perimeter of the fire. Engine 574 and Engine 512 teamed up and handled one end of the fire as the brush units took care of most of the rest. Tanker 57 and 51 supplied water to the brush units and engines. The fire was under control in about 30 minutes, with crews remaining in scene until about 2 pm.
It is very dry. The cause of the fire was a suspected bad bearing on farm equipment.
