Just after 3:30 pm, QFD was alerted for a vehicle accident stand-by in front of 240 West State Street in Quarryville Borough. Deputy 57 arrived finding a sedan into a utility pole with a transformer on down on the roadway with a 40+ gallon mineral oil spill. Rescue 57 and Squad 571 began by damming up the storm drains to keep the oil out of them, and then started to cover the spill with absorbant. QFD Fire Police and Squad 572 handled blocking the roadway and diverting traffic around the scene, no small task at that time of the day.
Fire units cleared at 4:30 pm after the arrival of PPL who contracts the spill cleanup. The Fire Police cleared about 1 hour later after the arrival of a contracted traffic control company.
Thanks for everyone’s patience driving around the detour, and thanks to the dedicated QFD Fire Police for being out on a cold afternoon. All photos by Tom Amico.
