Saturday was a whirlwind of activities for the QFD.
In the morning, Truck 57 with Willow Street Fire Co Truck 50 set up the ladder arch at Rawlinsville Volunteer Fire Company for the memorial service for Past Chief Carl Strickler Sr. Our sympathies to the family and friends of Carl Sr.
At 3 pm, QFD firefighter Sarah Jones was married to her best friend Matt Clause, who is also a firefighter from Wrightsville Fire & Rescue Company 41. It was a great outdoor service on a beautiful day. We wish Matt and Sarah a wonderful life together.
As soon as the wedding was over, the final preparations for the 3rd Annual Halloween Parade were finished up. Many members of the Special Division Committee took care of decorating the station earlier. Line up began at 5:30 at the Quarryville Elementary School, and by then there were several hundred people there. At parade time, Fire Police with the help of Quarryville Borough and Quarryville Borough Police Department had all roads blocked and traffic controlled. The parade went down Hess St. to State St. and up to the firehouse. Once at the station, there was food, candy, trunk or treat, games, face painting, hay rides and music. We believe there were over 500 people in attendance.
And finally, the new Engine 574, the 2019 Pierce Enforcer, was placed in service, ready to respond to a fires for the next 20+ years.
There are way to many people and organizations to name that helped and partnered with us this year for the parade. Thanks to everyone who helped and attended, making this the biggest and best yet. This is the true meaning of community spirit, and our small town and close knit community turned out in support once again.
