3rd Alarm Grocery Store Fire In Gap

 November 25, 2019

At 1:20 am Sunday morning, Truck and Tanker 57 were sent to assist the Gap Fire Company on what turned out to be a 3rd alarm building fire at Weis Markets on Lincoln Highway in Salisbury Township. Gap units arrived to find a working fire in the store after receiving the fire alarm.

Truck 57 made several different set-ups in order to get the positions needed to utilize the master stream, cut off extension or overhaul. Tanker 57 assisted in the water supply operation.

Companies remained on scene until after 7:30 am.

2019 Incident # 398, 399, 400 and 401 were answered this morning between 7 am and noon. A medical assist for forcible entry, alarm bells, a chimney fire and an inside investigation (2nd call in the district) were the calls handled.

The most serious of those was the chimney fire, where crews found a blocked stove pipe that was burning. With due diligence, a slight wisp of smoke was observed around the siding. A few cuts through the plaster inside found a fire burning in the wall around the stove pipe. About 1/2 gallon of water from "the can" extinguished the fire.
